Managing Vendors When You're Effectively Locked In

As technology ecosystems become increasingly complex, many organizations find themselves dependent on a small number of critical vendors whose products are deeply embedded in daily operations. This discussion will explore how CIOs can maintain leverage and control when replacing a vendor is costly, disruptive, or strategically risky.

Joe Bastante, former CTO at BCBSNC, Principal at Exponent7 and CTO for Advaita Health Ventures, will lead the conversation to include practical negotiation strategies in locked-in relationships, frameworks for evaluating whether a migration is worth the investment, approaches to preventing vendor dependency through architecture and contracting decisions, and whether maintaining a credible exit strategy is a worthwhile long-term investment.

    Date and Location

      Friday, August 21 | 8:00 - 9:30 AM
Vaco (4130 Parklake Ave Ste 300, Raleigh, NC  27612)

Join SIM RTP on September 23rd at CAPTRUST for an evening dedicated to IT leadership and industry insight. The evening kicks off with networking, drinks, and appetizers, followed by a panel discussion featuring IT leaders tackling today's most pressing topics in the field.

Meeting Topic: AI as Both Defender and Attacker

Artificial Intelligence is transforming cybersecurity—but not just for defenders. The same technologies that help security teams identify vulnerabilities, detect threats, and respond faster are also being leveraged by attackers to automate reconnaissance, craft sophisticated attacks, and exploit weaknesses at unprecedented speed.

Join SIM RTP for an engaging discussion on the evolving AI-powered cybersecurity landscape. Our panel will explore how organizations can harness AI to strengthen their defenses while understanding the growing risks posed by adversaries using the very same tools. Through real-world examples and practical insights, we'll examine how security leaders can stay ahead in an environment where AI is accelerating both innovation and threat activity.

SIM RTP members attend complimentary. Not yet a member? If you're an IT practitioner interested in exploring SIM RTP, contact our membership team for a one-time complimentary pass to attend.

We look forward to seeing you there!

        RTP Community Outreach

All proceeds from the Ed Galloway Charity Golf Classic benefit STEM focused programs in the RTP area and contribute to the NCSU SIM Ed Galloway Endowed Scholarship.  The Society for Information Management (SIM) Ed Galloway Scholarship was created in 2008 by the RTP Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM) professional organization, and renamed in the memory of Ed Galloway who passed away unexpectedly in 2016. Galloway was instrumental in his efforts to bring community service into the chapter’s vision and mission. He believed that supporting the next generation of technologists would help not only the recipient, but ultimately help the chapter thrive. The NC State scholarship is awarded annually to a rising junior or senior and may be renewable if the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.
